Last month, Ontario Conservative leader Tim Hudak tried to create the impression that he was distancing himself from the anti-worker policies that he has long advocated. But dont be fooled: Hudak hasnt changed at all. His policies still propose ripping apart pensions, diminishing wages, and stealing workers job security.
The Societys Workers Rights campaign is every members way to learn about the dangerous proposals tabled by Ontario Conservatives so they can make informed choices at the ballot box in the next election. And its not just The Society doing this work. Through the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL), many unions are engaged in exactly this sort of campaign. To learn from others and contribute our experience, The Society has assigned staff organizer Richard Long to work with the OFL on the province-wide campaign.
Active in Society workplaces across the province, 33 Workers Rights presentations have been delivered by Society Locals in person and via conference calls. Many more meetings are still to come. Members Local leadership will contact them about meetings in their area.
For those members who have not been able to attend any of the meetings arranged by their Local already, The Society will be hosting a Telephone Town Hall open to members from every Local from 7-8 PM on March 26. Members can participate in this toll-free interactive call from the comfort of their own home. To register for the Telephone Town Hall, please e-mail langmaidl@thesociety.ca with your name and the telephone number you would like to be reached at for the Town Hall.
To get involved in the campaign, visit thesociety.ca/workersrights and contact your local representative.
