The Society is developing two new databases that will make it easier and cheaper to give members advice on their workplace issues.
Staff Representative Greg Spencer and Tressa Alan, a summer student and soon-to-be labour lawyer who recently finished articling for law firm Cavalluzzo Hayes, are working together to build the databases on Microsofts Access platform. One database organizes every arbitration decision The Society has ever received while the other does the same for legal opinions. The new system will give Society staff the ability to quickly find all relevant documents via keyword searches.
My hope is this will make it easier to give legal advice to Society members said Alan. Just think of the time it takes to go document by document to find what youre looking for. So this will make staff more efficient and allow The Society to find the answers to members questions more quickly.
The databases will be available to Society staff beginning August 29.
