On the heels of last month’s public awareness campaign during the Sudbury by-election, The Society is stepping up its campaign to stop the privatization of Hydro One, as recommended by the Premiers Advisory Council. The Society will be hitting the airwaves with new radio ads to stand up for the affordable and dependable service Hydro One delivers to Ontarians. This follows the public awareness campaign The Society ran during last months Sudbury by-election.
The timing of the advertisements is key. Since early February, the government has convened facilitated sessions with labour and management to talk about the privatization scheme recommended by retired bank CEO Ed Clark. The Society expects Premier Kathleen Wynne will make a decision on privatization in time for the provincial budget, expected later this month.
The advertisements and a broader Keep Hydro Public campaign are being run in coordination with our allies that represent utility workers and want to see sound energy policy made in the public interest.
