Hydro One Local Council focused on member engagement

Sixty voting and alternate delegates attended the daylong Hydro One Local Council meeting at the Delta Toronto East on June 13. The annual meeting, which is the highest governing body of the Hydro One Local, focused its work with the theme “Engaging with my union.”

Speakers included IFPTE President Greg Junemann, who highlighted the International’s work at the urging of The Society’s Pensioners’ Chapter to connect similar chapters across all locals. He also talked about IFPTE’s work to engage young members, citing The Society’s Hydro One Young Professionals Committee as a positive example.

Society President Scott Travers updated members on the state of the union, including the 10 collective agreements renewed over the past year, and participated in a panel of principal officers to help delegates learn about the governance of the union.

Local Vice President Jim Botari provided attendees an overview of the Local’s 2015-16 work, including implementation of last summer’s renewed collective agreement, the outcomes of significant grievances and the Local’s participation in solidarity work through initiatives like the Ontario Federation of Labour’s Make It Fair campaign.

Delegates also voted on local by-laws, elected delegates to the annual Society Council meeting in November, and received training on how to handle grievances in the workplace.
