Society Council meeting to focus on precarious work and mobilization

The 2016 Society Council meeting has a packed agenda that will focus delegates’ attention on key questions facing professional workers and preparing all members to mobilize to address those issues.

Dr. Elaine Bernard, Executive Director of Harvard University’s Labour and Worklife Program, will be the meeting’s keynote speaker and host a panel discussion. Dr. Bernard will focus on how the labour movement can best serve professionals. Her panel discussion — which also includes representatives of the Ontario Federation of Labour, Canadian Labour Congress and Toronto Community Benefits Network — will explore how precarious work impacts professionals and what role The Society can play in reducing precarity among professionals.

The two-day meeting that kicks off on Sunday, November 13 will also feature Canadian Labour Congress president Hassan Yussuff, IFPTE President Greg Junemann and IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Paul Shearon.

In addition to the series of speakers and skills-building workshops, delegates will approve the union’s strategic plan, receive the annual audit, and vote on a range of policy proposals.
