The Society attended the YWCA Torontos celebration for 2016s Women of Distinction, helping to raise more than $700,000 that evening for women and girls in the city.
Among the honourees was Roberta Jamieson, whom The Society has had the honour of working with in her role as President and CEO of Indspire. The Society has supported Indspires bursary and scholarship program to improve access to post-secondary education for Aboriginal youth.
A Mohawk woman from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, Jamieson is the first woman from a First Nation in Canada to graduate from law school. Since her graduation in 1976, Jamieson has received 14 honourary degrees that recognize her extraordinary contributions to public life as an ombudsman and dispute resolution specialist, as well as through her leadership in Aboriginal communities.
