ESA Local gets unanimous strike vote

SEP’s Electrical Safety Authority Local has received a unanimous strike vote mandate from its members. The ESA Local represents about 60 professionals who lead the way in promoting electrical safety awareness and enforce four regulations that keep Ontarians safe.

Led by Local Vice President Robert Mitchell, the ESA Local bargaining team requested the strike mandate after multiple rounds of bargaining where the employer insisted on a number of concessions, including to the members’ pension.

“With a unanimous vote there is no question as to the position of the ESA Local’s members,” said LVP Mitchell. “We have told our employer, in no uncertain terms, that we will not accept unreasonable proposals. Rather, we are prepared to do everything within our legal rights to stand up for ourselves.”

SEP President Scott Travers congratulated the ESA Local on their unanimous vote and pledged the support of all 8,000 Society members.

“It doesn’t matter how many members you have. All 8,000 SEP members will be with you to defend your collective agreement. I know we can also count on the 80,000 members of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers to be by your side, too. With members’ support and solidarity, I know we will overcome ESA’s concessionary proposals.”
