The Society is proud to partner with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) to create a first-of-its-kind study on precarious work among professionals occupations. A strong education, credentials and experience are no longer a guarantee of good employment.
Following two weeks of voting, members have spoken and our union has a new name. We are the Society of United Professionals. This milestone decision was backed by 81% of members while voter turnout hit an all-time high at 59.5%. In addition to the new name, members also approved each of the five other constitutional amendments that were on the ballot, as recommended by Delegates Council.
OPG announced it has reached the halfway point of the refurbishment of Darlingtons Unit 2 reactor on time and on budget. With that announcement the Ontario government confirmed its commitment to begin work on the next phase of the project, the Darlington Unit 3 refurbishment. Society President Scott Travers thanked the Society members involved for their fine work and noted that this brings long-term security to 1,000 Society-represented jobs.

The Ontario government released its much-delayed Long-Term Energy Plan and it contained a lot of positive news for our members. The LTEP re-committed to the continued operation of the Pickering NGS and the refurbishments of the Bruce and Darlington stations.
Members worked hard to make sure that our voices were heard. We refused to take for granted that politicians would simply make the right decisions not when it comes to our jobs.
A new federal bill brought forward by the Trudeau government is once again placing our pensions at risk. The Society is mobilizing to stop this legislation along with other unions, workers and pensioners across Canada. We need your help.
